Low-maintenance vinyl fencing never needs painting or staining, and comes in a variety of colors and patterns.
Made from co-extruded polyvinyl chloride (PVC), vinyl fence is as close to maintenance-free as you can get. It will never rot, shrink or decompose like wood, or rust like metal. It is mold and mildew resistant, and only requires occasional cleaning.
Vinyl fencing is comparable in cost to wood and is available in many of the same styles. While it is a great alternative solution to wood (or cedar) fencing and has the advantages of never changing color or rotting, it is not as durable as wood—particularly in the cold winter months of Maine. Compared to wood fencing, vinyl is not very impact resistant making it not the ideal choice for areas near driveways, parking lots, and flying or falling objects. However, it is a great solution for garden fence or ascent fence or for somebody who really would prefer a colored fence without the hassle and maintenance of painting or staining.
